7x24 Exchange Data Center Conference - Day 1

Day 1 of the 7x24 Exchange Data Center Conference and one of the more interesting presentations today was on ASHRAE TC9.9.  The ASHRAE standard is a recommendation for the low and high temperature and relative unity ranges for the operation of data centers.

This presentation discussed the feedback ASHRAE has received since their last standard revision for the data center environment.  The talked about the unintended consequences of changing temperature and relative humidity.  ASHRAE is planning to publish next year their results and suggest further changes to the standard.

The technical committee is going to suggest that the lower limit on relative humidity be reduced to approximately 8% which could eliminate the need for humidification in future data center build outs depending on their geographical location.
