NECA/IBEW Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Facility
NECA/IBEW Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Facility
Omaha, Nebraska
Morrissey Engineering was retained to design a building that met the needs of the Nebraska Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #22; and the Omaha Joint Electrical Apprentice and Training Committee (OJEATC) all under one roof. The building received the ACEC/Nebraska 2004 Engineering Excellence Honor Award.
Design Features:
- Distributed Generation - a 600 KW diesel engine generator that provides 100% backup to the building
- Telecommunications Lab - a 1600 square foot telecommunications lab that is used for training of electricians and technicians
- Classroom audio/visual systems - classrooms are equipped multi-media projectors, dimmable lights, overhead speakers with individual amplifiers, feedback eliminators, and equalizer controls in each room
- Energy conscious lighting design - highly efficient light sources are used for all general purpose lighting
- Interoperable Building Automation Management (BAM) - an integrated approach to control as opposed to a system approach
The 35,000 SF facility houses the IBEW Credit Union, Fringe Benefit Fund Office, NECA offices, and educational spaces for training of apprentice electricians and technicians, as well as continuing education for journeymen electricians, technicians and electrical contractors.
