In the heart of the Fort Omaha Campus lies the Metropolitan Community College Academic Data Center, a cutting-edge facility. Morrissey Engineering provided Mechanical, Electrical, Lighting, and Technology design support in collaboration with BNIM Architectural firm. This center forms a vital part of the Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology (CAET), serving as a hub for innovation and learning within the Information Technology program.
As students enter the data center, they are greeted by an environment tailored for hands-on experience. The space features a divided plenum raised-floor area, which optimizes airflow and cooling efficiency and facilitates the arrangement of servers and equipment. This design is especially beneficial for Data Center Management students, who have the unique opportunity to work in real-time scenarios, simulating professional IT environments.
The meticulous planning extends to the facility's layout. With cabinets arranged to create a center aisle containment, students gain insight into effective data center organization, a crucial aspect of managing large-scale IT operations. The thoughtful in-row cooling design ensures that all equipment maintains optimal operating temperatures, reflecting the best energy efficiency and performance practices.
Adjacent to the primary data center, a strategically placed data war room and data build room provide additional student resources. These spaces allow for collaborative projects, problem-solving sessions, and hands-on activities, fostering teamwork and critical thinking skills essential for future IT professionals.
This academic data center enhances students' technical skill sets and instills a deeper understanding of the industry's demands, preparing them for successful careers in technology. With real-time experience at their fingertips, students at the MCC CAET Data Center are genuinely at the forefront of the evolving information technology landscape.
